Jan Freicher (Ph.D)
Composer, Vibraphonist and Pianist


Well versed in jazz as well as classical music, Freicher's compositions display an appealing fusion of both idioms. He has written music for a wide variety of settings and instrumentations: chamber music, orchestra compositions, titles for big-band, solo vibraphone repertoire, as well as music for film and theater. 


After studying jazz mallets and composition at the Music Academy in Katowice (PL), he entered the master class of an American composer Bill Molenhof at the Academy of Music in Nuremberg (Germany). Under his guidance, he became interested in composing music for vibraphone. 

He also completed advanced studies - Composition for Film, Theater and Media at Zurich University of the Arts with Niki Reiser.


In 2007 he was honored as the Jazz Personality of the Year in Poland


He has won many international music competitions, including 1st Prize in the PAS Composition Contest 2008.


Freicher is a founder and leader of a number of performance ensambles including Fourth Floor, Vadomaya Collective and Symphonic Fusion.


He works with many singer-songwriters, incl. Denise Donatsch (CH) and Monika Lidke (UK).


From 2011-2018, Freicher taught at the State Academy of Music in Gdansk (PL). Areas of specialty included Jazz Vibraphone, Piano Improvisation and Mallet Improvisation Calasses for classical percussion students. 

He currently lives in Switzerland.
